From Passion to Profession: How Amy Kummer Built a Thriving Interior Design Business
How Amy built Amy Kummer Interiors, followed her passion, and launched a boutique with her daughter, proving it's never too late to start anew.
Hello Founders,
In today’s edition of The Founders Society Substack, we’re thrilled to spotlight our Spring interview with Amy Kummer, the inspiring founder and designer behind Amy Kummer Interiors. Amy’s journey from a creative upbringing to building a thriving interior design business during the pandemic reminds us that it’s never too late to follow our passions.
In this episode, she shares her unique path, the rewarding experiences of building a mother-daughter business, and advice for those ready to take a leap toward their own dreams.
The Leap to Launching Amy Kummer Interiors
Amy grew up surrounded by creativity, drawing inspiration from her mother, aunt, and grandmother. After college, she pursued a flourishing career in healthcare marketing until the pandemic pause provided the perfect opportunity to transition into interior design full-time. With faith and determination as her guiding forces, Amy left her stable job to pursue what truly brought her joy. Reflecting on the experience, she shares, “I really wanted to find joy in my work,” and embracing interior design helped her achieve that fulfillment.
Society Girls Boutique: A Mother-Daughter Business
Amy didn’t stop with interior design. She and her 10-year-old daughter, Caroline, teamed up to launch Society Girls, a boutique that blends their shared love of fashion. Working side-by-side with Caroline has been a dream come true for Amy, who cherishes this venture as a way to bond with her daughter and help her learn the ins and outs of business ownership at a young age. "It’s been such a rewarding experience working alongside Caroline," she shares, and this boutique has become a family collaboration they both hold dear.
Creativity and Courage at Any Stage
Amy’s story serves as a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to follow your passions. Her journey from a creative childhood to establishing a respected brand in the interior design world reflects her belief in embracing new paths courageously. For those considering a career pivot or creative pursuit, Amy offers this advice: "It’s never too late to start something new and find joy in what you do."
